A very helpful way to gain better acceptance and understanding of your loss is to learn more about the grief experience. Orange City Area Home Health and Hospice offers grief classes for five weeks to help individuals understand the dynamics of grief and provide a safe environment in which they can express feelings. The program is available to adults who have experienced the death of a loved one through illness, accident or suicide.

The goal of the classes is not to resolve the grieving process, but to assist the bereaved in working though the powerful emotions that accompany the death of a loved one. Professionals and past participants share information about normal grief reactions and help group members discover the skills they need to begin again.

Each week we will focus on a different topic:
• Understanding grief
• Feelings associated with a loss
• Self identity and role changes
• Spirituality in grief
• Coping with holidays and special occasions
• Acceptance and growth
