Daily life at Prairie Ridge

NOTE: during this time of extra precautions during the COVID-19 pandemic, we have altered our activities to keep our residents and staff safe. Below is a “typical” scenario at Prairie Ridge, but things are not so typical right now. However, it remains our commitment to keep our residents connected and engaged. So, check out the daily activity calendars for each of our cottages, below.

The typical nursing home in the United States has planned activities five or six afternoons a week – perhaps some some in the morning and some in the evenings. At Prairie Ridge Care Center the host/hostess leads planned activities in the Cottage every morning, afternoon, and evening, 365 days a year. Residents don’t “go home for the weekend,” so neither do our activity staff!

Four times a week residents go “to town” – to the Village – for large group activities at the Community Center. On Sunday afternoon the Community Center converts to a chapel, making the space a more worshipful atmosphere.

Spontaneous activities happen throughout the days and evenings. Our specially-built trolley provides transportation to concerts in the city park on Wednesday evenings during the summer, fishing trips, casual drives around town, and other special excursions. On occasion we rent a large wheelchair-accessible bus to take out-of-town trips such as to see the Christmas lights in nearby Maurice or to have a treat at the LeMars Wells Blue Bunny Ice Cream Parlor.
