LOCAL PHYSICIAN COMPLETES FIRST PHASE OF FERTILITY CARE EDUCATION

Orange City Area Health System doctor offers natural reproductive alternatives

Harrison Hanson, MD, a family practice physician with Orange City Area Health System, has completed the first phase of the FertilityCare™ provider education phase of the Creighton Model FertilityCare™ System in Omaha, Nebraska. The Creighton Model FertilityCare System is a standardized and scientifically based program that offers couples a high degree of effectiveness to achieve or avoid pregnancy.

“This system of fertility care is morally and ethically sound,” explains Dr. Hanson, “in a reproductive world where technologies often present such challenges to individuals.”

Women of any reproductive age — regular or irregular cycles, breastfeeding, coming off the birth control pill, infertility, pre-menopause — can effectively use the system.

“This is something every woman should know about her body,” shared one Creighton Model user and course participant.

During the first nine-day phase of the course that Dr. Hanson completed in Omaha, topics included artificial and Natural Family Planning methods, anatomy, physiology of the human reproductive system, and the psychological and philosophical aspects of sexuality. This education will include a supervised practicum, and another seven-
day education phase in Omaha in the spring. This unique program is offered by Pope Paul VI Institute for the Study of Human Reproduction in affiliation with Creighton University School of Medicine. After the 13-month education program is complete, Dr. Hanson will be eligible to become an affiliate with FertilityCare Centers of America.

Dr. Hanson is part of the team of 15 family practice physicians and mid-level providers — and one of seven who provide Obstetrics care and services — at Orange City Area Health System (OCAHS), which

includes four medical clinics, specialty clinics/services, a hospital, birthing center, surgical services, diagnostic imaging, two nursing homes, a senior living facility, and home health and hospice.  More information about OCAHS can be found at ocHealthSystem.org.
