ALZHEIMER’S PROGRAM TO BE HELD JULY 23

Dr. Joanning to discuss Alzheimer’s Disease and the Family

Orange City Area Health System is hosting a program entitled “Alzheimer’s and the Family” on Tuesday, July 23, from 6:30-8:30pm at the Prairie Winds Event Center in Orange City. This presentation by Harvey Joanning, PhD, will focus on Alzheimer’s Disease and how it affects the patient and family. A short overview of the disease process will be followed by a description of the stages of the disease. Changes in the patient and typical family member reactions will be highlighted, and resources available to the family will be discussed. Dr. Joanning will also describe medications that are available as well as in development. The program will conclude with discussion of how to care for an Alzheimer’s patient.

Following Dr. Joanning’s presentation and questions/discussion, Dan McCarty, COO of Orange City Area Health System, will provide an update on Prairie Ridge Care Center, the new senior care facility being built on the north edge of Orange City, which includes a Memory Unit.

Dr. Joanning is a Professor Emeritus and former director of the Marriage and Family Therapy graduate programs at Iowa State University.  He is presently on the faculty of the University of Iowa, the University of South Alabama, and Mt. Mercy University. Dr. Joanning has been a caregiver and has extensive experience training health and mental health professionals to deal with Alzheimer’s families. He is a graduate of Briar Cliff University and the University of Iowa, and is a psychologist specializing in marriage and family therapy. Dr. Joanning is a native of Granville, Iowa and owns an area farm with his brothers.

Kuwahara RaymondORANGE CITY AREA HEALTH SYSTEM NOW OFFERING DERMATOLOGY CLINICS

Orange City Area Health System is now offering Dermatology services in its specialty/outreach clinic. Raymond Kuwahara M.D. of Tri-State Specialists is accepting patients at the Orange City clinic beginning July 11 from 8:30-11:30am. Dr. Kuwahara is Board Certified in Dermatology, a Diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology, and Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. Dr. Kuwahara practices general dermatology with interests in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of skin cancers, as well as acne, warts, and other diseases of the skin. He completed his undergraduate and masters degree at the University of Washington in Seattle, followed by his medical degree from Hahnemann School of Medicine (Drexel University) in Philadelphia.
