For those with nursing home needs, Orange City Area Health System has two facilities which provide 24-hour nursing care. The Long Term Care unit, located in downtown Orange City, houses 33 beds. The Heritage House has 50 beds and is located near the south end of the community. Both facilities offer skilled and intermediate level nursing home care and are Medicare and Medicaid certified.
Licensed nurses are on duty around the clock, attending to the medical concerns of each resident as detailed in individual care plans. Certified Nurse Assistants provide for each resident’s personal care needs. Restorative therapy aides carry out the directives of a licensed physical therapist, and the Activity department plans and provides large group, small group and individual social events.
Other staff in the nursing home — social worker, dietary staff, and housekeeping staff — all serve together to make life for each resident as pleasant and comfortable as possible. Family members are encouraged to participate in life at the nursing home to the extent that works best for them.
In our nursing homes we do not hold to the notion that “people go to the nursing home to die.” We believe that people come to our nursing homes to live. While it is true that the majority of our residents do eventually die here, we believe it is our privilege to help make their time with us a time of living. We will do our best to make your resident’s life with us as rich and full as possible.
