Orange City Area Health System Contributes to Community Health
As a vital part of the community, Orange City Area Health System is committed to meeting the health needs of area families. Over the years, our facility and staff have grown extensively to meet the changing health needs of the area, now employing over 500 medical professionals and support staff.
Continued growth has led to the replacement of a 1960s era hospital with a new medical campus which opened to patients on in May 2006. Located in Orange City, the $29.6 million project is a complement to visionary leadership, along with the will and determination of the citizens of Orange City, Alton and the entire rural area in a time when many small hospitals are struggling for survival. After seven years of study and planning, the medical campus provides a new state-of-the-art facility in which to serve the health care needs of patients, residents and families of Northwest Iowa.
The 128,000 square foot hospital and clinic seamlessly merge a nature oriented environment with distinctive, contemporary architecture. The two-level brick facility features a stunning, sun-filled glass and steel lobby with a waterfall feature, fireplace, and interior wall of rugged cultured-stone and a slanted oak ceiling canopy. Key to the design was the health system staff’s desire to create a comfortable healing environment. Healing aspects in the design include patient and family confidentiality and privacy amenities, natural light and indoor water features. Architectural elements incorporate the use of natural light that drenches the patient rooms and lounges.
Situated on a 37-acre green space, the building is constructed on a curve that embraces nature and includes a pond, wooded areas and gardens on the grounds. The building and site are truly an example of incorporating the location with the mission of healing. The health system is now ready to serve the area in an expanded capacity ensuring the highest quality of care and services for people in Northwest Iowa– and the region — for decades to come.
